Although Masstock's origins in agriculture date back to the 1920s, it was in the 1970s that it launched itself as a force in the Irish and UK agribusiness.

Led by proprietors Alastair and Paddy McGuckian, the initial focus was on the design and construction of livestock units facilitating intensive management and feed systems that soon won preference over 'open grazing' practices. Some 300 such units were established during this period.

In the late 1970s it brought its state-of-the-art farming systems to the Middle East where it established one of the world's largest dairy herds (20,000 cows) through a series of joint ventures.Desert Cow Farm

Mounting a vertically integrated approach to these ventures in the 1980s, it processed and marketed the herd's produce to become the leading supplier of fresh dairy products under the name 'Almarai' - now considered the leading brand in the Middle East - delivering to some 17,000 retail outlets on a daily basis.

From these successes, Masstock has undertaken a diverse range of agri-projects on all five continents over its 30 years of operation. Equally diverse has been its imaginative approach to investment, management and partnership arrangements as the project or business opportunity merited.
